In these unique days of 2020, face masks have become the main attraction whether we like it or not.  They are essential in protecting ourselves and others from the spread of COVID-19, so inevitably, they have become a staple part of our everyday attire.  Nevertheless, with face masks being worn front and center on a person’s face, they just so happen to also be a prime opportunity to promote your brand or message.  As you have probably already seen, there has been a plethora of fun and creative mask decorations out there, and we are here to assist you in creating yours!

Before you get started on your latest mask order, we want to give you some tips on ensuring that your mask design is creative, but also effective.

    Breathability

People often forget that if a decoration or logo covers the majority of a mask or the mouth-region of the mask, breathability is affected.  If it’s difficult to breathe in your mask, you wouldn’t want to wear it, right? This is why it’s important to take into consideration the placement of your decoration to allow for comfortable breathability while still providing protection.

    1)     Remove any background color fills

While it’s not recommended to place a logo in the center of a mask, it is better to have it be an outlined logo than a full color filled logo to help prevent breathing difficulty.

    2)     Off-center placement

Placing your logo on the left or right side of a mask is always the best bet for maximum breathability, especially if your logo must have a color fill.

    Decorating Techniques

Two-ply face masks offer better protection than single ply and thinner options, however, these types of masks require a specific decorating technique that plays a large role in the decoration limitations. While being decorated, two-ply (and sometimes single-play) masks are held in place with a special clamping pallet, and because these clamping systems take up space, the whole area of the mask sometimes isn’t equally available for decoration. However, depending on the equipment being used, a larger decoration size may be achievable – so always ask us first!

Check out these general guidelines for ideal printing areas that account for clamping systems, hopping areas, and heat press platen sizes!

    Decorating Types

Because it is always best to keep temperatures as low as possible when decorating masks, the best and most recommended methods of decoration are the following:

    1. Pad Printing - Uses a silicone pad to transfer an image onto an item
    2. Heat Transfer - Uses a cap press and/or a small platen
    3. Screen Printing - Uses water-based inks, a facemask clamp or a pocket pallet with light tack
    4. Embroidery - Seals the backing with a laminate seal
    5. Direct-to-Garment - Sprays the ink onto the garment

If you have any questions about mask decorations, don’t hesitate to reach out to us at NorthPoint, and we can help you to achieve both a functional and creatively designed mask that will be appreciated by all!

The holidays are right around the corner, which means we are officially in the homestretch…and you know what that means!  It’s time to prepare and start getting out your orders for holiday gifts and festive promos.   Have no fear though -  we’ve got the perfect products for you.  If you saw our latest Hot Item of the Week blog post, you would know that the ugly sweater designed products are back and ready to take on the holiday season.  What better way to rep your brand in *holiday fashion* than with a CUSTOM ugly sweater, ugly sweater socks, and even ugly sweater designed mask!

The word “custom” opens up a whole world of possibilities when it comes to designing your ugly sweater items.  The great thing about them is that they can feature a seemingly endless about of elements and combinations. This gives you the ability to make a unique sweater design that can include whatever you might like.  Add in your logo or some of your brand elements to make it the perfect company giveaway! The best part though? We can do this for you! Send in your requests, and our design team can get to creating your very own unique ugly sweater design that can be applied to your product/s of choice.

Before you get started on brainstorming all of your magical and *ugly* ideas, we’ve got a few tips to help you get started:

    1)  Know your color limits

Our knit sweaters allow for up to 3 colors max in a design.  Prepare ahead of time with your color options so that there are no set backs with the design and production of your sweaters! Our socks and masks, however, have completely full color printing capabilities, so no need to worry about color limits with these items!

    2)  Add brand elements to make your design unique

Choose from stock knit colors for your sweater, OR choose PMS matched colors to make your brand stand out even more.  PMS matching requires higher minimum orders and possibly longer production times though, so make sure to get your order in soon! Consider adding in particular brand elements to your design as well, like your logo, icons, or patterns! Of course, you can always stick with a more traditional ugly sweater design as well.

    3)  Don’t get too crazy with the details

The ugly sweater is a process that involves actually knitting in your design, so extremely detailed elements don’t work as well in this situation! If there are too many details, pieces of your design may turn into blobs when knitted into the sweater.  Keep this in mind when choosing the elements that you want on your sweater.  Since our socks and masks are full sublimation, however, details are ok for these items.

    4)  Prepare in advance!

The intricacy of ugly sweater designs takes time, which means that the production of them does as well. There is nothing worse than having a great idea for festive holiday promos but then not being able to get them in on time. Mark this on your to-do lists, your calendar, and set a reminder on your phone.  The sooner the better for these items!
