Creative Billboard Ads

When you think of billboards, I’m sure what comes to mind is bland design with flashy text attempting to get your attention about a topic that doesn’t pertain to you.  What if I said that billboards don’t have to look that way? Turning this large blank canvas into something creative, or at the very least aesthetically pleasing to look at, just requires you to spend a little bit of extra time coming up with the concept and design. When it comes to advertising, the more clever or creative it is the higher the chance of people remembering it and talking about it with others. So get your thinking caps on and take a look at ten of the most creative billboard ads that we've seen below!

H&M
H&M – The inclusion of the closet is a clever visual representation of their messaging. This is way more effective than if it were just text on the entire billboard.

5 Gum
5 Gum – This really takes the visual a step beyond what they could have done. Instead of printing this visual on the canvas, they decided to play with 3D space to really drive the effect of fire and ice.

Donatos
Donatos – This fun ad utilizes a fake ad placed next to theirs. The messaging is saying that the pizza is so good the person in the other ad took a slice from the Donatos ad.

BBC
BBC – A thought provoking ad campaign that utilizes corner billboard spaces to their advantage with their messaging.

Cadbury
Cadbury – A giant sized Cadbury chocolate bar? I don’t blame these fake people of climbing up there and ripping it open.

Ford
Ford – Simple yet effective. This billboard has a separate cut out for the wheel so it can spin, and while doing so a smoke machine mimics the car doing a burnout.

McDonalds
McDonald’s – The text on this billboard is made of plants, which locals can watch grow over a few weeks, emphasizing the freshness in their messaging.

McDonalds
McDonald’s – Another ad for McDonald’s but this time cleverly uses billboards for wayfinding to their nearest establishment. Their instantly recognizable arch of their logo is also cleverly cropped to look like a directional path.

Tyrolit
Tyrolit – The material on this billboard rusts over time, only leaving the shape of the company’s knife pristine. The tagline “Flawless. Forever.” gets the point across to the viewer.

Nationwide
Nationwide – Okay this one isn’t a typical billboard but a combination of large building signs and installation. The ad for the paint company is fake but appears the spilled paint from the middle banner spilled out into the real world over some cars in a parking lot. The banner on right is the read ad for Nationwide Insurance, claiming “Life Comes At You Fast.”
